Wildflower Season - 2005
|
2005 is shaping up to be one of the best years for wildflowers in many years.
McDowell Park is not the only place to see them, but it is one of the best in close proximity to the Phoenix Metropolitan area.
It is our hope to update these pages regularly as the season progresses.

What makes a great wildflower season?
Rain...and more rain. We've had plenty, starting in the late fall and continuing through January and February. March warmth should help with seed germination and even more wildflower species will grow and blossom. Right now, the desert in McDowell Park is incredibly green with plant growth.
Numerous washes, normally dry as a bone, were running freely on February 20, 2005.

Pencil Cholla - with red fruit - sorry, not a flower, but still pretty

The moss loves the rain too - it was rich and deep velvety on this boulder
